Our caribou are carved by Ross Flowers, who lives in Hopedale on the coast of Labrador.
Ross is an Inuit who learned to carve as a young boy from his father and uncle. His designs are simple yet convey a strong sense of the animal....their movements, their stance and head turns are exactly as Ross has seen and hunted all his life. The caribou are carved from aspen and the antlers are made from real caribou antler.
When he isn't carving Ross is fishing for crab and scallops on the north Labrador coast; or he is sealing in the Spring. In the winter, he trains and races his dog team, and is part of a revival of traditional dog teams along the coast.
